Lung Tumours

Lung tumours are abnormal growths that develop within a dog’s lungs and can significantly affect respiratory health. These tumours may either originate directly in the lungs (primary lung tumours) or spread from cancer present in another part of the body (metastatic lung tumours).

Lung tumours are more commonly seen in older dogs, although pets of any age may be affected. Exposure to environmental pollutants, smoke, and other harmful airborne substances may increase the risk of respiratory cancers in dogs.

Dogs with lung tumours may show symptoms such as chronic coughing, breathing difficulty, rapid breathing, wheezing, weakness, reduced exercise tolerance, weight loss, loss of appetite, fever, and lethargy. In some cases, dogs may not show noticeable symptoms during the early stages of the disease, making regular veterinary checkups important for early detection.

At Shiva Pet Clinic, our veterinarians use advanced diagnostic methods such as X-rays, imaging tests, biopsies, and respiratory evaluations to identify lung tumours and determine the most suitable treatment plan for your pet.

Treatment options may include surgery, supportive care, chemotherapy, or long-term monitoring depending on the type, size, and stage of the tumour. Early diagnosis and proper medical management can help improve your pet’s comfort, quality of life, and overall prognosis.
