Babesiosis

Babesiosis is a serious tick-borne disease caused by microscopic parasites that attack and damage a dog’s red blood cells. The infection spreads through tick bites and can quickly affect a dog’s immune system and overall health if left untreated.

Dogs suffering from babesiosis may experience symptoms such as fever, weakness, pale gums, lethargy, loss of appetite, dark-colored urine, dehydration, weight loss, and breathing difficulties. In severe cases, the destruction of red blood cells can lead to anemia and organ complications.

Puppies, weak dogs, and pets living in tick-prone environments are generally at a higher risk of developing severe infections. Since symptoms can worsen rapidly, early diagnosis and immediate veterinary treatment are very important.

At Shiva Pet Clinic, our veterinary team uses blood tests and clinical examinations to accurately diagnose babesiosis and begin appropriate treatment. Treatment may include medications, fluid therapy, supportive care, blood support, and strict tick control measures.

Regular parasite prevention, routine grooming, and maintaining a clean environment are essential to protect pets from babesiosis and other dangerous tick-borne infections.
