Ehrlichiosis

Ehrlichiosis is a bacterial tick-borne disease that affects a dog’s blood cells and immune system. The infection spreads through the bite of infected ticks and can become serious if not treated at an early stage.

Dogs with ehrlichiosis may develop symptoms such as fever, weakness, swollen lymph nodes, loss of appetite, nose bleeding, weight loss, joint pain, vomiting, breathing difficulty, and lethargy. In advanced stages, the disease may also affect the bone marrow and lead to severe anemia and bleeding disorders.

The disease often develops gradually, and some dogs may not show clear symptoms during the early stages of infection. This makes routine health checkups and tick prevention very important for long-term pet health.

At Shiva Pet Clinic, our veterinarians perform detailed blood testing and clinical evaluations to diagnose ehrlichiosis and determine the severity of the infection. Treatment generally includes antibiotics, supportive medications, hydration therapy, and parasite control to help pets recover safely.

Regular tick prevention, maintaining proper hygiene, and timely veterinary care are essential to reduce the risk of ehrlichiosis and protect your pet from serious health complications.
