Ear Mites
Ear mites are tiny parasites that can easily spread from one dog to another and are a common cause of ear irritation and infections. While dogs of all ages can be affected, puppies are more vulnerable because of their close contact with other pets and lower parasite protection.
Dogs suffering from ear mites often develop dark, coffee-ground–like debris inside their ears.
These microscopic parasites feed on the wax and natural oils in the ear canal, causing irritation, inflammation, and excessive discharge.
Common symptoms of ear mites include:
- Constant scratching of the ears
- Head shaking
- Ear redness and irritation
- Dark, crumbly discharge
- Unpleasant odor from the ears
At Shiva Pet Clinic, our veterinarians can quickly diagnose ear mites by examining ear debris under a microscope and provide effective treatment to relieve your pet’s discomfort.
Regular parasite prevention and routine veterinary checkups are essential to protect pets from ear mites and related ear infections. Early treatment helps prevent severe irritation and keeps your pet healthy and comfortable.
