Liver Disease
Liver disease is a serious health condition that affects the normal functioning of the liver in dogs and cats. The liver is one of the most important organs in the body and is responsible for digestion, detoxification, nutrient storage, metabolism, and filtering harmful substances from the bloodstream.
Pets can develop liver disease due to infections, toxins, poor diet, medications, obesity, genetic conditions, or age-related changes. Since the liver supports many body functions, liver disorders can significantly affect a pet’s overall health and energy levels.
Common symptoms of liver disease in pets include vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite, weight loss, weakness, excessive thirst, yellowing of the eyes or gums (jaundice), abdominal swelling, lethargy, and behavioral changes. In severe cases, pets may also develop neurological symptoms due to toxin buildup in the body.
At Shiva Pet Clinic, our veterinarians perform detailed physical examinations and advanced diagnostic testing, including blood work and imaging studies, to accurately diagnose liver conditions and determine the most suitable treatment plan.
Treatment may include medications, liver-supportive supplements, fluid therapy, dietary modifications, and long-term monitoring depending on the severity of the disease. Early diagnosis and timely veterinary care are extremely important to support liver function and improve your pet’s long-term health and recovery.
