Yeast Ear Infections
Yeast ear infections are a common ear problem in dogs caused by an overgrowth of yeast inside the ear canal.
Warm, moist ears create the perfect environment for yeast to grow, especially in dogs with allergies, floppy ears, or frequent exposure to water. These infections can cause significant discomfort and may become chronic if not treated properly.
Dogs with yeast ear infections may show symptoms such as:
- Constant scratching or rubbing of the ears
- Head shaking
- Redness and inflammation inside the ear
- Strong, unpleasant odor from the ears
- Brown or yellow waxy discharge
- Pain or sensitivity when the ears are touched
Yeast infections can worsen over time and may lead to swelling, thickening of the ear canal, and recurring infections if left untreated. In severe cases, chronic inflammation can affect hearing and overall ear health.
At Shiva Pet Clinic, our veterinarians carefully examine your dog’s ears to identify the underlying cause of the infection. Treatment may include professional ear cleaning, medicated ear drops, and guidance on proper ear care to help prevent future infections and keep your pet comfortable and healthy.
